Mr. Deal's Educational Background
I grew up on a small dairy farm in Salisbury, PA, where I graduated in 2000 from what was then the second-smallest public high school in the state. I attended Messiah College in Grantham, PA, graduating in 2004 with a Bachelor's Degree in chemistry. For the following six years, I taught chemistry at Mechanicsburg Area Senior High School. While at Mechanicsburg, I also served as the graduation project coordinator and director of the secondary science fair. After graduating from Shippensburg University with a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership and Policy, I became the High School Principal at Berlin Brothersvalley High School in 2010. I am very proud that, while at Berlin, we became affiliated with the Pennsylvania Literacy Network (PLN) and the Pennsylvania Institute for Instructional Coaching (PIIC). Together, PLN and PIIC helped to improve both Berlin's curriculum and instructional practices. Additionally, I oversaw the implementation of a 1:1 iPad initiative while at Berlin.
Mr. Deal's Family
I married my high school sweetheart, Elizabeth, on June 2004. Elizabeth is an elementary school teacher at West View Elementary in the North Hills School District. Our oldest son Bryson is a fourth-grader at Freedom Area Elementary, and our youngest son, Preston, just turned four years old in August. As a family, we enjoy outdoor activities like hiking and camping. We enjoy being active members of the Freedom Community as well as participating in Cub Scouts and our church, Unionville United Methodist.
